You know the file. A scan of a receipt with half your desk visible around it. Lecture slides exported with a fat white border that wastes half the screen. A form where the actual content is a small island in a sea of empty margin. Cropping is the five-minute fix — you keep the part you want and hide the rest.
Here is the honest workflow, start to finish:
- Drop in your PDF. It opens right in this tab — nothing is uploaded, nothing leaves your device.
- Draw the keep-area. Drag a box on the page preview. The darkened area is what gets hidden; the bright rectangle is what stays. Drag the edges or the little square handles to fine-tune it.
- Or type exact numbers. Prefer precision? The Left / Top / Right / Bottom fields accept points or percentages — perfect for matching margins across a whole document.
- Pick a preset if you are in a hurry. “Trim 36 pt from every side” is the classic tidy-up. These are fixed margins, not magic — you decide how much goes.

Three things nobody tells you about PDF cropping
First, the hidden part still exists. Cropping a PDF changes the visible window, not the underlying content. If you crop out a credit card number and send the file to someone, a determined person can restore the full page. Cropping is for tidiness, not secrecy. For truly removing sensitive content, you want redaction, not cropping.
Second, “auto-trim” tools are guessing. Some sites claim to automatically detect your content and trim the margins. Ours does not pretend: you draw the box, you type the numbers, or you pick a fixed preset. What you see in the preview is exactly what you get.
Third, the file barely shrinks. Because the hidden content stays in the file, a cropped PDF is usually about the same size as the original. If you need a smaller file, use our Compress PDF tool after cropping.
What it can and cannot do
It can crop any page to an exact rectangle, handle pages that were saved sideways (0°, 90°, 180° and 270° rotations are all mapped correctly), and apply the same box across pages of different sizes. It cannot open password-protected files (refused by design), it will not erase content for security purposes, and pages rotated by odd angles like 37° are refused rather than cropped wrongly — we would rather say no than scramble your document.
