How to Add a Watermark to a PDF Online Free (No Sign-Up, No Upload)
You send a design mockup to a prospective client, all smiles. A week later, your layout shows up in their brochure — and your invoice never arrives. Or a confidential draft leaks, and everyone denies it was their copy. A watermark would not have stopped a determined thief, but it would have made the file useless to them — and that is exactly what a good “DRAFT” or “CONFIDENTIAL” stamp is for.
Here is how to add a text or logo watermark to any PDF online, free, without installing anything and without uploading the document to someone else’s server.
How to add a watermark to a PDF, step by step
Step 1 — Open the tool. Go to the Watermark PDF tool on AllConvert. It runs in your browser — no account, no upload.
Step 2 — Add your PDF. Drop the file into the upload box or click to choose it — the name and size appear inside the box. “Try a sample file” experiments on a throwaway document first.
Step 3 — Design your stamp. Type your text — DRAFT, CONFIDENTIAL, your company name — then set size, color, and opacity from a barely-there 10% to a bold 100%. Rotate it diagonal, and choose the layout: one big center stamp, a tiled pattern, or a header/footer line. Prefer a logo? Upload a PNG/JPG.
Step 4 — Choose the pages. Stamp every page, or just a range — handy when the cover is public and the rest is not.
Step 5 — Check the preview and download. A live preview shows the first page with your watermark in place. Download it.
A watermark says what a disclaimer cannot
A written warning is a paragraph people skip. A big diagonal “CONFIDENTIAL” is a message nobody misses — it follows the document everywhere, on screen and in print. It keeps drafts from being mistaken for finals and brands samples so your logo travels with them: the cheapest insurance in business documents.
Honest limits — read before you stamp something important
A watermark is a deterrent, not a lock. It is drawn as an overlay layer, so someone with proper PDF software and enough determination can remove it. It stops the casual thief, not the expert. For a truly permanent stamp, print the watermarked PDF to a new PDF afterwards — that flattens everything into one unpeelable page.
Password-protected PDFs are refused. The browser cannot read a locked PDF at all, so the tool declines cleanly instead of failing halfway.
Logo images: PNG and JPG only. GIF, WebP and SVG are not accepted as logos — convert to PNG first if needed.
Size it with the preview. Very large text on a small page will cover the content instead of sitting under it — glance at the live preview before you download.
The short version
Open the tool, drop the PDF, design the stamp, preview, download. No sign-up, no upload — your documents carry their warning labels from now on.
